Our commitment
Gambling is meant to be entertainment — not a way to make money, repay debts or generate income. As gambling in British Columbia is conducted, managed and operated by BCLC, a provincial Crown corporation, we take our responsibility to keep play safe seriously. Our responsible gambling program is GameSense. We are committed to preventing gambling harm, protecting minors and young adults, providing self-control tools, helping you understand how games work, and supporting players who may be at risk. For free and confidential support in British Columbia, contact Gambling Support BC at 1-888-795-6111, 24/7 — a service funded by the Province of British Columbia. How we deliver on this commitment day to day — staff training, how we intervene when we see signs of harm, and who is accountable — is set out in our Responsible Gambling Policy.
19+ only, and how we verify it
All services are for persons aged 19 and over who are resident in and located in British Columbia. We verify your age, identity and residency before granting full access. Verification uses a government-issued photo identity document — a driver's licence, a BC Services Card, a passport or a permanent resident card — uploaded through our Document Upload tool, checked through the identity-verification provider we engage for that purpose, including a check against credit-bureau records where one is available. You must give a real residential address in British Columbia; a post office box is not accepted. If verification does not succeed, your account stays restricted: you cannot play and you cannot withdraw, and we will tell you what further information is needed. It is wrong — and against our rules — to play on behalf of, or to enable, a minor.
Deposit, loss and time limits
Setting a weekly deposit limit is mandatory when you create an account, and the account cannot be used to play until you have set one. The limit can be anything from $1 to $100,000 per week. Loss limits, time limits (daily, weekly and monthly) and time-outs are switched on by default under Standard 3.8 of the RG Standards for Internet Gambling; you may opt out of any of them, but you have to do so actively — we will never silently leave a protection off. A decrease to a limit, or making it stricter, applies immediately. An increase, or removing a limit, applies only 24 hours after you ask for it, so a decision in the moment cannot override one you made calmly. All amounts are in Canadian dollars (CAD).
Reality checks and activity history
Display of how long you have been playing and of your net position for the session is switched on by default. You can change the interval to suit you, but it cannot be switched off entirely. You can review your complete deposit, withdrawal and play history at any time from your account. Seeing your activity clearly helps you make informed choices and stay aware of time and spend.
Take a break or use Game Break
Need to step away? You can take a break to pause your play, or enrol in Game Break (Voluntary Self-Exclusion) for 6 months, 1 year, 2 years or 3 years. Game Break starts immediately and cannot be cancelled or shortened, and it covers far more than this website: every gambling facility in British Columbia with slot machines, all commercial bingo halls, and all BCLC online channels. We check self-exclusion status at registration and at login. See our Game Break (Voluntary Self-Exclusion) page for the full terms.
Dedicated tools and pages
Each of our key tools has its own detailed page. Visit Deposit, Loss & Time Limits to manage your limits; Taking a Break to take a short time-out; Game Break (Voluntary Self-Exclusion) for a stronger pause; and our Responsible Gambling Policy for how we operate the program. You can reach all of them from the Responsible Gaming menu in the footer and the sidebar.
Understanding the games
GameSense helps you understand how the games work, that outcomes are based on chance, and that the odds always favour the house over time. Games of chance have no memory: past results do not change the odds of the next draw, and a near miss is still a loss.
The specifics are published, not just described. The prize tiers and the overall odds of winning for every lottery — Lotto Max, Lotto 6/49, BC/49, Keno, BC 50/50 and Extra — and the theoretical return to player (RTP) for every casino / eGaming game are published in the official game conditions for that game, and are available before you start to play, from Customer Support on request. Virtual sports outcomes are generated by a certified RNG, not by real sporting events.
Signs of gambling harm
You may be at risk if you play more or longer than intended; spend money you cannot afford; chase losses; borrow to play; feel stress, guilt or anxiety about gambling; hide your gambling; or it affects work, study or relationships. Recognising yourself? Set a limit, take a break or seek help — there is no shame in it.
Tips for safer play
Treat gambling as entertainment, not income. Set a budget before you start and stick to it. Only play with money you can afford to lose. Do not chase losses or play to escape stress. Balance gambling with other activities, take regular breaks, and never gamble while under the influence or upset. Decide in advance how much time and money is reasonable for you.
Protecting minors
You must be 19 or older to hold an account or play. We verify age, identity and residency at registration and may re-verify at any time. Keep your login details private and log out after use. Parental control software can block gambling sites: Windows Family Safety, Apple Screen Time, Android Family Link, and network-level filtering. Never let a minor play under your account.
Before you have an account
You do not need an account to read anything on this page or on any of our responsible-gambling pages, and you do not need one to get help. The limits, reality checks, breaks and activity history are account tools, so they become available once you register. Game Break (Voluntary Self-Exclusion), however, does not require an account with us: you can enrol online, in person, by video call or by telephone, and our Customer Support team will register the exclusion for you whether or not you have ever opened an account.
Support for friends and family
Problem gambling affects people close to the player too. If someone you care about is struggling, you can encourage them to use these tools, set limits together, and reach out to Gambling Support BC, which also supports family members. Help is confidential and free.
